Hi. There's something severely wrong with the home network in this house. In the network, there's 3 PC's connected to the Ethernet ports on the router, a PS3, a telephone base-station with 2 cordless hand pieces running off it, a printer, and a laptop connected by wireless.

The download speed is painfully slow at sub 0.9 Mbps.

when we remove the telephones from this network, the speed immediately rises to 5Mbps. Plugging the phones back in makes the speed drop to below 0.9 again.

I am in rural Victoria and my only viable ISP is via 5.7Ghz wireless. I have been with my ISP for circa 5 years and am near the edge of acceptable reception. In the past 6 months our reception has deteriorated substantially with up to 15/20 dropouts each day – does a lot for VOIP!. My ISP originally said it was caused by the growth of tree’s in the antenna line of sight. I removed branches to no avail and then moved the antenna to a fresh position with clear line of sight, fresnel impact included. No change. My ISP then said bad luck what I had was as good as I get.

The most exciting thing I've done lately is add new firmware to my older WD TV Live HD media player.

WD hasn't updated it for a while and probably won't with their new streaming version out now.
But you can have streaming too with the unofficial WDLXTV firmware and a wired network connection to your wifi router.
It allows addons to be downloaded and I use mt-daapd (Firefly), MediaTomb, and MiniDLNA.

I have 60 gigs of data I want to transfer from a Desktop pc running Xp to a laptop running win 7.
Is a usb to usb cable enough? Will I need any special software?

I have a USB hard drive with video files, attached to a WD TV Live Streaming Media Player. The media player and the PC are attached to a wired network, and I can "see" the media player on my computer under Network, in Windows Explorer (Win7/64 bit). The problem is that I am "not allowed" to delete or write on the USB hard drive, from my PC over the network. I get the message "you do not have permissions to perform this operation" on my PC. Any ideas how to modify permissions on the USB hard drive, so I can write and delete files from my PC over the network? Thank you.

i have win7 on my pc and run through adsl2 netgear 2200 router my speed on speedtest is 2.5mbps on my sons old pc wireless connection his is 2.9,and on my daughters laptop it is 3.2 why is mine the slowest in these speedtests

I have a Thomson TG782T Router/Modem from Telstra Bigpond. on one of the ports I have a Ritmo Model CD3590 3.5"HDD enclosure fitted with a 250 Gbyte Seagate SATA drive. I can see the IP address of the enclosure in the Router Setup dialogue page. I don't have a MAC address for the enclosure and as such I cant map the drive to my PC running Windows XP Professional with SP3. The software that came with the enclosure is a very bad Chinese to English translation and as such is of very little help.

HI i have been using WD TV LIVE with network cable from my modem to WD TV LIVE HD MEDIA PLAYER, O/S windows 7, and router/modem Netgear, Now is given me a problem stop accesing the file on my H/D and i cant use it at all. Reboot modem .and the WDTVLIVE to no avail still nothing is working on that unit. Sometimes the next day everything is ok for some short time and then hangs for the next few hours. I have upgrade the unit on a regular basis. Is not a modem issue as my moden works fine. Is enything else i can do, your help is very mutch appreciated Dennis
